6.Summary

The domestic market in 2009 showed, since the beginning of the year, the trend falling below that of the previous year as mentioned above. In the second half of the year, however, the passage of national supplementary budget seemed to boost the demand for the equipment related to cancer and mass screening (therapeutic equipment, mammography and FPD-related equipment). Therefore, the demand leveled off throughout the whole year. Although other diagnostic imaging equipment increased steadily, the decrease of several percent was recorded for diagnostic X-ray, CT, diagnostic ultrasound, MRI and nuclear medicine. As a result, the total diagnostic equipment leveled off at 305.0 billion yen (+-0%) and the total domestic market reached 321.3 billion yen (-1%). The related items and accessories decreased significantly to 7.6 billion yen (-34%). Although the demand shifted from a leveling off to a decrease, other diagnostic image processing systems increased remarkably to 60.0 billon yen (+34%).
