Review of the 2nd Quarter (July to September) of 2011

The percentage in ( ) refers to the increase or decline over the previous year.

1. The total amount of medical imaging systems was as follows.
- Production 99.1 billion yen (- 8 %)
- Export 44.8 billion yen (- 10 %)
- Import 22.7 billion yen (- 4 %)
Total domestic market 77.0 billion yen (- 6 %)
2. The domestic market of major equipment was as follows.
For major equipment the following increased:
- MRI 9.5 billion yen (+ 3 %)
- Diagnostic ultrasound 12.2 billion yen (+ 9 %)
- Nuclear medicine 2.9 billion yen (+ 67 %)
On the other hand, the following decreased.
- X-ray 22.8 billion yen (- 7 %)
- CT 15.5 billion yen (- 12 %)
- Related items & accessories 1.5 billion yen (- 26 %)
- Image processing systems 10.0 billion yen (- 18 %)
 
Total diagnostic equipment decreased to 74.4 billion yen (- 5%)
Therapy systems significantly decreased to 2.5billion yen (- 24 %).
 
For X-ray system, following increased.
- General-purpose R/F 5.5 billion yen (+ 5 %)
- General-purpose Radiography 3.1 billion yen (+ 2 %)
- Mammography 1.3 billion yen (+ 1 %)
- Mobile 0.6 billion yen (+ 16 %)
On the other hand, the following decreased.
- Cardio and angio 4.7 billion yen (- 8 %)
- Dental 0.9 billion yen (- 34 %)

3. The total production output decreased to 99.1 billion yen (- 8 %).
For major equipment, the following increased:
- X-ray 31.9 billion yen (- 7 %)
- CT 23.8 billion yen (- 8 %)
- Diagnostic ultrasound 18.6 billion yen (- 3 %)
- MRI 9.4 billion yen (- 1 %)
- Related items & accessories 4.0 billion yen (- 31 %)
- Image processing systems 9.7 billion yen (- 17 %)
On the other hand, the following increased:
- Nuclear medicine 1.3 billion yen (+ 178%)
 
Total diagnostic equipment decreased to 98.6 billion yen (- 8 %)
Therapy systems decreased to 0.5 billion yen (- 62 %).
 
For X-ray, the following increased:
- Cardio and angio 4.4 billion yen (+ 3 %)
- Mammography 1.7 billion yen (+ 48 %)
On the other hand, the following decreased:
- General-purpose R/F 6.7 billion yen (- 9 %)
- Mobile 1.5 billion yen (- 3 %)
- Dental 1.4 billion yen (- 26 %)
4. The total exports decreased to 44.8 billion yen (- 10 %).
For major equipment, the following increased:
- CT 12.2 billion yen (- 7 %)
- X-ray 13.4 billion yen (- 9 %)
- MRI 5.0 billion yen (- 12 %)
- Diagnostic ultrasound 11.0 billion yen (- 2 %)
- Related items & accessories 2.4 billion yen (- 35 %)
 
Total diagnostic equipment decreased to 44.8 billion yen (- 2%).
 
For X-ray system, the following decreased:
- General-purpose R/F 1.3 billion yen (- 41 %)
- Cardio and angio 2.1 billion yen (- 10 %)
- Mobile 1.0 billion yen (- 11 %)
On the other hand, the following decreased.
- General-purpose Radiography 4.0 billion yen (+ 2 %)
- Mammography 0.9 billion yen (+ 64 %)

5. The total imports decreased to 22.7 billion yen (- 4 %).
For major equipment, the following increased.
- X-ray 4.3 billion yen (- 18 %)
- CT 3.9 billion yen (- 21 %)
- MRI 5.0 billion yen (- 6 %)
- Image processing equipment 0.9 billion yen (- 48 %)
On the other hand, the following decreased:
- Diagnostic ultrasound 4.7 billion yen (+ 47 %)
- Nuclear medicine 1.8 billion yen (+ 23 %)
Total diagnostic equipment decreased to 20.5 billion yen (- 4 %)
In addition, Therapy systems increased to 2.2 billion yen (+ 5 %)
 
For X-ray system, the following decreased:
- Cardio and angio 2.4 billion yen (- 24 %)
- Mammography 0.5 billion yen (- 25 %)

6.Summary

The domestic marcket from July through September in 2011 decreased as the entire market with 77.0 billion yen (-6%) as shown in the above. Nuclear medicine, MRI, Diagnostic ultrasound increased while Diagnostic X-ray, CT, Image processing systems, Related items and accessories and Therapy systems decreased.
